Sage Sagittarius – Ask the Right Questions…Teach the Right Lessons.

Author: Shelly Happel

Hey there, what’s your story? Where have you traveled lately? Are you in school? What are your general beliefs? Maybe you’re taking a class in a new subject (like philosophy!) or you’re a teacher (like me!) and you enjoy sharing the knowledge you’ve gained. Having a passion and wanting to share it is some of the most familiar territory for Sagittarius (November 22 – December 21).

During this busy sign (it is a fire sign after all), each one of us has the opportunity to ask ourselves these kinds of questions (and more!). The long nights and short days offer us time and space to reflect and be grateful for our bounty. The quiet and stillness of the Earth itself helps us to envision what we would like our lives (or life-stories) to become. This usually requires yoga and meditation – or at the very least – a significant slowing down. If we don’t consciously do this, how can we expect the universe to conspire with us and co-create our manifestations?

Symbolically, the Sage is a half-human & half-horse Centaur. He holds an arrow that is pointed to far-away lands (symbolizing intrigue for other cultures & lat/long locations). Sagittarius is also known as a wise Guru or Teacher. The constellation itself also holds an important position in the night sky. It is sandwiched between the intense and extreme energies of Scorpio and Capricorn. Typically those born under the Sun sign of Sagittarius tend to be good humored and well-liked by most people. In classic astrology, they are “ruled” by the biggest planet in our solar system –Jupiter

Not only is its ruling planet huge, but it is a geographically large constellation in the night sky that looks like a teapot. Speaking of tea, perhaps this would be a great time for you to start some water boiling and take some sniffs and sips as we ponder the relationship of this Zodiac sign to the upcoming New Moon (in Sag) on November 26 2019 and Full Moon (in Gemini its 180° opposite) on December 12, 2019.

As I mentioned in last month’s blog, I will be covering the Full and New Moons in this monthly AstroYoga report. If you haven’t read last month’s installment, I suggest you do, as it sets the stage for this monthly forum. Over the next twelve months (starting with Sagittarius), I’ll be highlighting how these polarized energies (New and Full Moon) can generally affect us based on their resident Solar constellation or Zodiac Sign.

During this New Moon in Sagittarius, I recommend you invent new stories for yourself. Notice when you use self-limiting language. Be kinder to yourself and allow your feelings to flow to the surface. Maybe you need to shed some tears during your Savasana or express your feelings to a loved one. Be sure to be telling your story. Even though the Moon is reflected light, we don’t want to project our hurt or stories on other people, particularly when everyone is feeling vulnerable (not just you or me).

Take the time, space, and place to nurture your feelings and be compassionate with yourself and others. Remember what your hopes and dreams were as a child. See if you can spin a tale that puts yourself as the hero, having survived calamity and yet life hasn’t deterred you from your heart’s hope. This is Sagittarius. Maybe you need to plan a vacation? Turn on some music from another time or another culture. Be a traveler in your own mind. Our thoughts shape our actions, so be mindful of the seeds you are sewing for future adventures and a call to your destiny!

If you take the time to reflect on your emotions during this New Moon cycle in Sagittarius, then you’ll likely be ready for this Full Moon in Gemini. Fun Fun FUN! Remember the Earth is still in Sagittarius but the Moon is 180° in the opposite constellation (from our perspective).

Know that I’ll be talking more about Gemini six months from now, but for now, let’s just say that it rules the mind and fills your head with endless notions. Gemini is social, so accept some of those invitations, make the time to go to parties, to be outdoors and share your ideas with others and be inspired by their creations. Let yourself speak freely and loudly! Gemini’s love to talk and all fire signs like to be boisterous and loud. In other words, don’t be a wallflower or retreat into your wounded cave. There will be time for that during Capricorn.. Right now… the story you were born to live is waiting for you to fill in the blanks. Will you accept the invitation?

Until next month…Namasté y’all! Shelly Yoga
